The Vermont DOC has reported the death of a man who was arrested in Springfield

The cause of Sunday’s death will be determined by the Southern Regional Correctional Institution

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Corrections is conducting internal administrative and medical reviews following the death of an inmate on Sunday.

Ronald Roy, 71, of New Hampshire, was found unresponsive in an inpatient unit at the Southern State Correctional Facility (SSF) in Springfield around noon Sunday. Vermont DOC personnel immediately called for emergency medical services and both DOC and medical personnel administered life-saving measures. EMS arrived at the scene and pronounced Mr. Roy dead a short time later.

Mr. Roy was living in the infirmary at the time of his death.

The Vermont DOC notified the Vermont State Police and the Attorney General – Office of Inmate Rights.

The Vermont DOC Peer Support Team will be at the facility this week to support SSCF staff.

Mr. Roy was brought before the SSCF in 2020 on federal charges. The Vermont DOC also notified the United States Marshals Service of the death.
