STARTERS
Texas Tech takes its 10-0 record on the road for the Shriners Children’s College Classic hosted at Minute Maid Park. In three days, the Red Raiders will see Rice, Michigan and Texas A&M.

Coverage will be provided via AT&T SportsNet SW. Gerald Sanchez (Friday), Brett Dolan (Saturday) and Butch Alexander (Sunday) will be on the mic for play-by-play action, while Pat Coombs will provide analysis for all three games.

The Texas Tech Sports Network broadcasts the game to more than 46 affiliates across the state of Texas and New Mexico, as well as on the varsity app. Jamie Lint joins former Red Raider baseball player Mike Gustafson on the call.

Challenge program for Texas Tech
Texas Tech is off to a 10-0 start, which includes six wins against NCAA Regional teams in 2022 over Gonzaga (4) and Air Force (2). Gonzaga was a No. 2 seed in the Blacksburg regional last season and pushed Texas in the Austin regional, two wins away from the program’s first super regional appearance, before Air Force lost to host Texas. In fact, eight of the Red Raiders’ first 13 games are against teams that appeared in the region last season. The last of those 13 games was the first of four Top 25 opponents in Texas A&M.

A series of stories – Rice

• Texas Tech and Rice They played 119 times in 1958. The two programs’ major issues stem from their shared affiliation with the Southwest Conference – which disbanded in 1996.
• Texas Tech and Rice have met eight times previously at Minute Maid Park. The first was for the Astros’ College Classic in 2001, shortly after the stadium opened for its first MLB game on April 7, 2000.
• The two programs met last year at Rice for a three game series. Texas Tech swept the road series to push its streak to seven wins over the Owls.
• Tech is 112-85 all-time against members of Conference USA.

History series – Michigan

• Texas Tech and Michigan have played 10 times in their history with six meetings dating back to 2019.
• Texas Tech and Michigan met last year for each of the 2022 season openers. The game was the first in a tournament at the State Farm College Fair at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. • Texas Tech and Texas A&M have played 155 times since 1929. The highlights of the two programs’ meetings are in the Southwest Conference — which disbanded in 1996 — but, according to Rice, the series moved when the two joined. The Big 12 became a charter member in 1996.
• The two programs last met at Minute Maid Park, also for the 2017 Shriners College Classic. It is the only time the two programs have met since Texas A&M joined the SEC.
• Tech is 110-188 all-time against SEC members. Excluding Texas A&M from that record, the Red Raiders are 53-90.

SHRINERS Kids College Classic All Tournament Team
An all-tournament squad consisting of 13 players will be announced the week after the tournament. The team consists of a catcher, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, designated hitter, three outfielders and four pitchers. The most outstanding player must be a member of the 13-man, all-tournament team.

SHRINERS CHILDREN’S COLLEGE Classic Competition Rules
Because of the number of games scheduled per day at Minute Maid Park, the college uses the classic mercy rule, which ends a game when a team leads by 10 or more runs after seven innings (6½ innings if the home team is winning).
