The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is discouraging travel on Friday, December 23, 2022 due to “forced blizzard conditions,” including “snow, high winds, reduced visibility and freezing temperatures.”
On Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the southern and western parts of the state. Northern Wisconsin was under a winter weather advisory.
The weather service predicts wind gusts of up to 55 miles per hour that will “limit visibility on roads even when snow is not falling.” Sub-zero temperatures can be dangerous for stranded drivers.
Road conditions vary by location and can be monitored at 511wi.gov, which also has live traffic cameras.
The Wisconsin DOT says people who must travel should fill up on gas, have a fully charged phone, prepare an emergency kit and tell others about travel plans.
