Scottish technology sector trade body Scotland has published its annual survey, which suggests job growth is on the cards.

None of the companies in the survey plan to cut jobs.
Scotland IS The technology sector employs over 80,000 people in Scotland, with 3,900 “digital technologies” companies. According to the organisation, the sector is the fourth strongest export sector with foreign sales of £3.3 billion.
The membership organization works closely with the Scottish Government, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise and Skills Development Scotland.
According to the report, the biggest job opportunities in the next year will be in cyber security (46%), data analytics (45%) and artificial intelligence (43%). However, AI and data analytics jobs increased by only 1%, while cyber security increased by 15%.
According to Scottish IS, the proportion of transactions over £1m will increase from 22 per cent in 2022 to 37 per cent in 2023.
Karen Meechan, chief executive of IS Scotland, said: “The best result from this year’s survey is the way our technology sector is stable.” “A major shift was needed to deal with the ebbs and flows of the pandemic, and that has now evolved into something more predictable and sustainable. Not only are many companies recording seven-figure turnovers, they are also looking to outsource their services to Scotland. For the technology sector to grow, it must export; So this is an encouraging sign for the future.

The research shows that Scotland’s technology sector has exported at the highest level (87%) since the Covid-19 pandemic, reversing the decline in exports from 2021 to 2022.
Meechan said the strike among Silicon Valley-based companies “could be a rare opportunity for Scottish companies struggling to find emerging candidates as they leave experienced talent for the industry”.
As well as cyber security and data analytics skills, general software development skills were observed to be in high demand: SQL, Python and JavaScript (ReactJS/AngularJS/NodeJS) were the first and second most sought after specific technical skills by companies.
The top four areas that digital companies offer have changed little, the report says. Financial services grew from 10 percent to 11 percent, while the public sector fell from 13 percent to 12 percent. There were smaller increases in demand from defense (1% to 6%) and healthcare and pharmaceuticals (also 1% to 7%).
