Brooklyn Circus is expanding its retail footprint into another borough.

The ready-to-wear brand is setting up shop in Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood, opening a new retail concept called “The Space” at 361 Canal Street. The 1,100-square-foot gallery-style store is intended to be separate from the brand’s Boerum Hill storefront, offering product rotation and working closely with brand partners on partnerships and in-store experiences.

“It’s about letting people know and rediscover what Brooklyn Circus is and what Global Village is,” said founder and creative director Augie Theodore. “We’re constantly trying to learn more about what we can contribute not only to our community, but to fashion and design. So it’s constantly changing.”

The store’s driving experience is reflected in the product lineup. The location offers original styles, latest collections and exclusive pieces from Brooklyn Circus – including some archival styles – as well as a changing collection from other brands and designers who have worked with Theodore and Brooklyn Circus. This includes South African menswear designer Wanda Lefoto and Amsterdam-based gender-neutral fashion label Juez Les Infantes, for example.

Products for sale include books, furniture, art and home decor. The Manhattan store will also offer select pieces from Brooklyn Circus’ recent Space collaboration and the newly launched BlaKc Wash collection in collaboration with Art Comes First.

“It’s about the global village and how we use people and the amazing talent we have in the village,” Theodore said of the store’s partners. We make it grow with.

The new store is similar to the Brooklyn storefront because Theodore wants to use it to bring people together. As Theodore has done in Brooklyn for the past 16 years, he plans to host events celebrating art, music and culture in front of the store.

This marks the second time the brand has expanded its retail footprint beyond Brooklyn. Brooklyn Circus previously operated a store in San Francisco for 10 years, which closed in 2019.

To celebrate the opening of the Manhattan store, Brooklyn Circus is unveiling a series of eye-catching portraits of “25 thinkers, innovators, dreamers, fighters, movers and collectors” modeled after the brand’s Blackjack wash collection.

The new storefront will continue the Brooklyn Circus vintage business, with plans for a special department now underway.

“My goal for the new store is to shape the image of the store so that it is absolutely its own,” says Theodore. “To allow the Brooklyn store to continue to grow and be its own, and to add more experience. When we were designing and building the store, we met with people on the street on Canal Street. The canal between Worcester and West Broadway is very mixed. It’s New York at its best.”
