Unfortunately, family trips to international destinations can be expensive—flights and accommodations, as well as eating out and activities, can add up quickly. This rings especially true if you have to travel during peak seasons like summer or spring break.
To come up with the list, the travel site looked at the cheapest flights for four people from the US between April 17 and 21 from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport using Skyscanner to find the 10 cheapest family travel destinations this spring. To make sure these destinations are truly family-friendly, the platform looked at things like crime index scores, air pollution and the number of kid-friendly accommodations using Booking.com and TripAdvisor restaurants and activities.
“With the rising cost of living worldwide, vacations can seem like an unaffordable luxury for families. It’s true that summer travel is expensive this time of year, but … there are some really affordable deals in every destination for every budget. You just have to know where to look,” James said. 1. San Juan, Puerto Rico
A short flight away from the US is San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. The historic, vibrant city has both a fascinating history and plenty of family-friendly outdoor activities and restaurants.
“There are many free or low-cost attractions to enjoy in San Juan, such as the historic Old San Juan district, beautiful beaches, and outdoor activities like hiking in El Yunque National Forest,” Brockbank said. “Overall, with careful planning and budgeting, San Juan can be an affordable travel destination.” Flights from the US can be as low as $239.

2. Vancouver, Canada
Located on Canada’s west coast, the beautiful and clean city of Vancouver offers family-friendly activities to enjoy, from Vandusen Botanical Gardens to Granville Island and many, many parks. The crime rate in Vancouver is also relatively low, making it a safe place for families. Flights from the US cost around $295.
3. Reykjavik, Iceland
Nature is on full display in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. Stunning mountains, glaciers and northern lights will amaze your family. The city offers many opportunities for families to learn more about Viking culture. Reykjavík is a reasonably priced $478 flight from Atlanta to travel from the US and is known for being clean and safe.
4. Toronto, Canada
As one of the most culturally diverse cities with many attractions to experience, Toronto is a fantastic city destination for families. Families will never run out of things to do, from going to Greektown or Chinatown and then seeing the CN Tower and exploring the Ontario Science Centre. Flights to Toronto aren’t too expensive either, costing around $481.
5. London, United Kingdom
From Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, London is home to many family-friendly activities and attractions. As a busy city, the English capital has many restaurants and hotels that welcome families. A flight from the US to London will cost you around $559 this spring.
6. Oslo, Norway
With the bonus of being a safe and clean place, Oslo is the perfect destination for adventurous families. Although Oslo is the capital of Norway, the city is charming and quiet, and English is widely spoken. Families should stop at the International Children’s Museum of Art and the Polar Ship Farm (with a reproduction of the Northern Lights!) Flights to Oslo are $586.
7. Paris, France
The bustling French capital is not just for lovers. Families can choose from more family-friendly hotels and take part in many activities such as the Parc Zoologique de Paris and the Cite des Enfants Children’s Museum. However, Paris is notorious for pickpockets, so travelers should be careful with their belongings. Flights to France this spring cost $678.

Berlin is an ideal destination for families who want to dive headfirst into history. While staying in Berlin is not as cheap as cities like San Juan, the flight is still affordable, costing $680.
9. Copenhagen, Denmark
As the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen is known for its colorful houses and innovative design that embraces the past and the future – the city has been recognized as the World Capital of Architecture by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects. It is also a safe and affordable destination to reach. Flights from the US are $686 for spring – which is off-season, so expect more people and still warm weather.
10. Barcelona, Spain
Getting to Barcelona from the US is $762, but once you get there, it’s worth it. The city has plenty of kid-friendly activities and hotels, although pickpockets can be crowded. Families can sample Spanish cuisine at La Boqueria Market and visit many cultural sites such as the Sagrada Familia.
