It was business as usual for Wyomissing as the Spartans defeated Trinity 35-14 in a non-league football game at A Field on Saturday afternoon.

Wyomissing’s proprietary Wing-T offense was in full swing as the Spartans racked up 317 rushing yards on 36 carries and cruised to victory over the Shamrocks.

“We always like to come out here and shake the floor,” Drew Eisenhower said. “Our line did an amazing job on sweeps, we got outside and it worked well today.”

The win was Wyomissing’s 28th straight regular season win, two shy of the Berks record. The Spartans (3-0) had another score heading into Saturday, as Wyomissing didn’t give up a single point in its first two wins.

Although there were plenty of familiar sights on hand for Spartans fans, like several rushing touchdowns, a standout performance from the offensive line and a double-digit halftime lead, the chance to shut it down ended when Wymissing’s reserves gave up two touchdowns. In the fourth quarter.

The final results didn’t faze Wyomissing coach Bob Wolfrum one bit.

“I told the kids that shutout lines are really unhealthy,” Wolfram said. “Because then you start worrying if they’re going to score or not and the other team is going to score a touchdown and we’re going to go down the pipe? I don’t really care about the results. It’s probably healthy for us.”

Trinity (1-2) showed up late in the game, stifling the Shamrocks early and scoring every time they had the ball (five drives) until the fourth quarter.

Senior Charlie McIntyre opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with an 80-yard rushing touchdown. His score was followed by a 12-yard touchdown run by Eisenhower with 10:20 left in the second quarter.

The drive continued with 2:35 left when the Spartans capped a 62-yard drive from the Trinity 14 with a McIntyre touchdown.

McIntyre finished with a team-high 156 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. He immediately credited the Wyomissing linebacker for the success.

“First of all, I like to thank the line, especially the big boy, Jevon (Williams), after every run,” McIntyre said. “I praise him every time because he puts people on the floor every game and it’s fun to run behind them. It makes my job easier.

Wyomissing’s Jevon Williams leads Charlie McIntyre for a big third quarter gain against the Trinity Shamrocks at Wyomissing A-Field on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022.

In fact, Penn State-led offensive lineman Javon Williams has been a key success for the Spartans this season. Wyomissing has rushed for 923 yards in three games.

“Honestly, I’m looking at the x’s and o’s and I don’t even know who caught the ball,” Wolfrum said. But it was a good day, we all played well. That offense (of the Shamrocks) played hard. He’s got them going in the right direction and they’ll be a handful next year.

The key to the Spartans’ streak, which went on to beat teams, was without two of their key fullbacks in Matthew Kramer and Collin Niedrowski. But as Wolfrum said, the next-man-up mentality fits Wyomissing’s offense perfectly, holding multiple players while running the football.

“We got a little bit beaten up this week; we lost Matthew and Colin,” McIntyre said. But yeah, it was a next-man-up mentality. And I think everybody was uplifted.

Eisenhower extended the Spartans’ lead early in the game. Wyomissing capped a four-play, 66-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. He finished the game with 72 yards on six carries with two rushing touchdowns and 8 receiving yards.

Drew’s brother, freshman Chase Eisenhower, scored the first touchdown in the Spartans’ opener against Kennard-Dale, capping a 70-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run for Wamising.

“It’s great; it’s a great experience playing with him,” Drew Eisenhower said. “And it’s a lot of fun. I know he stepped up for us today. He did a great job.”

The Spartans open league play Friday against Section 4 member Berk Catholic in the next edition of the “Backyard Brawl” at the Forino Sports Complex.

Even though the Saints (0-3) find themselves winless, Wolfrum and his players know they won’t take anything for granted.

“I told the kids, ‘You know, I don’t care what their record is or what our record is, it’s going to be tough,'” Wolfrum said. “It’s always.”
