Whether you’re a solo traveler or a family of 8+, you always want to know where your stuff is. Apple’s AirTags are fantastic for tracking where your devices are, especially if you have an iPhone or iPad.

I use AirTags in my kids’ backpacks/video game cases – both for tracking and the bags themselves when the kids lose them, as well as our checked luggage.
Every year, a lot of luggage is lost in the airlines. In the year In 2021 alone, more than 1.9 million bags were mishandled by U.S. airlines, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Having an AirTag (or an Android-friendly alternative like Tile devices) in your luggage can be a lifesaver.
Airtags allow me to track my checked baggage and find out where I am as soon as we land at our destination if my bags have made it with us and haven’t made it to the conveyor belt when they do. If the bag wasn’t at the airport I was at, I’d make a beeline straight to the airline’s baggage claim to file a report.
The ability to track through the Find My app is great. I’m far from the only one writing about this phenomenon of how to best track your luggage.
In the year In 2018, less than 48 hours before Pesach, we landed in Mexico, only to find out that 2/4 of our checked bags didn’t even get on the plane with us. Even though the airline finally delivered our luggage 24 hours later, I had no clothes or toiletries, and was not guaranteed to see my holiday clothes for more than a day before sunset. Thankfully, after reporting it to the airline, the credit card I used to book my flight gave me extra protection with baggage delay insurance, for essential purchases like toiletries and clothing. Baggage is delayed by the airline up to 100 dollars per day for 5 days and more than 6 hours. This allowed me to visit the mall closest to my hotel, pick up some clothes for the next 1-2 days, and get paid by credit card when I got home.
If you don’t have a card that offers baggage delay or lost baggage coverage, this is a 100% card in my opinion. The $95 annual fee is absolutely worth it, no questions asked.
Additional tips for preparing for lost luggage before It happens
