LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming in as a head coach in an amazing first game Joey McGuireRed Raider fans will get their first look at the 2023 Texas Tech football program Saturday at Lowrey Field’s annual spring game.

Due to the ongoing construction project at Jones AT&T Stadium, the spring game is being hosted off-site this year at Lowrey Field, the home of Lubbock ISD football, at PlainsCapital Park. Gates will open at 11:00 on Saturday for the scheduled 12:00 start. Admission is free for all fans.

The Spring Game in Lubbock highlights a full day of action for Texas Tech athletics as the Red Raider baseball program hosts Baylor in the afternoon at Dan Lowe Field at Rip Griffin Park.

Distribution information
The Texas Tech Spring Game will be broadcast live from Lowry Field with John Harris and Chris Rank on the call with sideline reporter Ariel Shafer for the Big 12 now on ESPN+. The game will be carried exclusively via ESPN+, with additional coverage provided by @TexasTechFB on Twitter.

Game format
McGuire and his staff split the Red Raiders into two teams for a unique format that combines Team Red Raider with Team Fear. According to the roster distribution, all offensive players will wear white uniforms on Saturday, while the defense will wear black, as Team Red Raiders will be on the field and fearless will take on the visitors. The redshirted quarterback alternates between the two teams.

The game will have a 15-minute overtime in the first half, the fourth quarter and the last two minutes of the second quarter with regular time rules. The third quarter featured Texas Tech’s “red zone lockout” period where the ball appeared on the 20-yard line multiple times for both teams, a set piece for most of the Red Raiders’ practices under McGuire. The Texas Tech coaching staff will make decisions late in the spring game in the fourth quarter, based on the number of plays that have already moved to that point.

Team awards will be presented at halftime.
Texas Tech will bring back a longtime tradition at halftime when McGuire and his staff present team awards for the 2023 season. Texas Tech Team Awards Awarded in 1961, it features the Pete Cawthon Memorial Team MVP, the Dale Morgan Memorial Courage Award and the EJ Holub Double Tough Award, among others. Members of Texas Tech’s 2022 Tax Act Texas Bowl team will be on hand and will be announced during a halftime presentation.

Parking information
Free parking is immediately available for all fans west and northeast of Lowrey Field. Fans are reminded that alcohol is not allowed on Lubbock ISD campus, which includes parking lots adjacent to the stadium.

Fan Fest opens two hours before kickoff.
Texas Tech will host a Fan Fest at the area south of Lowray Field Saturday starting at 10 a.m., featuring an inflatable bounce house and obstacle course, food trucks, live music and several vendor booths. Tailgate Express will have an open tailgate location on 70th Street, offering a cash bar and entertainment before kickoff. The Fan Fest area is free for all fans and is the perfect way to get ready to see the first version of the Red Raider football team.

Become a new season ticket holder
After the Red Raiders compiled an 8-5 record with four straight wins to close out McGuire’s first season, there’s no better time to become a new ticket holder. Texas Tech ticket office representatives will be on site Saturday as season tickets are now available in all sections of Jones AT&T Stadium for as little as $185 per seat.

Concessions will be open in the stadium.
Concessions are available for purchase on both the west and east sides of the stadium.

Clear bag policy
Lowry Field at Plains Capital Park has the same clear bag policy for all events hosted on the Texas Tech campus. Fans may bring the following style and size bag or pack to the venue.

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and bags no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″.
  • One gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziplock bag or similar).
  • Small clutch bags, roughly the size of a hand, can be carried in one of the clear plastic bags with or without a handle or strap.
  • After the proper examination, a special case will be made for medically necessary items.
  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectants are allowed.
