So you’ve done all the research, all the planning, booked your flight, and now it’s time for your trip! Make sure you book that flight at the right time, when your baby is asleep or just waking up, ready to play and laugh.
However, anyone with any experience with children knows one thing to be true: the unexpected always and probably will happen, so plan for it. That’s got you covered!
Keep up that planning momentum and keep your little one excited with these tantrum-busting tips!
From the moment you board that plane to the moment you get off the plane, you’ll be on edge hoping with every fiber of your being that your baby will hold on for a long time and not completely melt! Being prepared with snacks, toys, and other activities to keep your child occupied can be just the key to floating in the sky.
What makes one item more suitable than other items when it comes to flying? Be sure to clearly comply with TSA guidelines (your liquids comply with the 3-1-1 rule), but also consider:
- Compact – You have a million things to pack, especially with a young person. Complete car characters may also not have enough space to travel.
- Light weight – Again your bag is already packed, so stick to lighter options and don’t overload your bag. Don’t forget, maybe you’ll come back with souvenirs too!
- What creates a little confusion – Getting messy is inevitable, but no matter how much your child loves it, there’s no need to bring that kinetic sand or finger painting kit.
- Battery operated or requires charging – Keep that tablet on the charger until you get on the plane; You know the same goes for both of you! If it requires batteries, keep toys in case the batteries die, unless you have room in your bag for 8 AA batteries or plan to take some with you on the go.
- Sound level – You are on a plane with other people. Be considerate. No karaoke machines or toy cars with loud engines. Bring headphones or earphones for the videos or music you want to listen to.
- Durability – Refrigeration is not an option (unless you have an ice pack for breast milk or formula and you’re in TSA) so have non-perishable and packable snacks (plus you don’t have to worry about snacks going late!) /
- Peanut free – Peanuts are allowed on the flight, but there may be someone on your flight with a peanut allergy. In this case, there will be an announcement and travelers are asked not to open any containers containing peanuts, so it is better to skip them.
With all these features in mind, let’s dive into some of our favorites!
