A travel consultant with his team at Preferred Travel in Naples recently had the opportunity to participate in a National Geographic Expeditions gorilla and chimpanzee trekking adventure last month.

Carlin Wright, a travel consultant with Select Travel for the past six years, joined “The Great Apes of Uganda” for the ultimate adventure experience. The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the lush hills of Uganda where he encountered chimpanzees and mountain gorillas in the wild.

Mrs. Wright traveled with 10 hikers who joined their guide and drivers, and each hiker had a porter to assist them as they entered the forest. The chimpanzee trek began in Kibale National Park and continued as the group traveled to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Ms Wright said she will never forget the chance to sit amongst the gentle giants and see one of the planet’s most iconic creatures up close.

Park rangers lead the way as hikers travel through dense forests at elevations of up to 10,000 feet. To understand the environment and the great apes, National Geographic experts offer a variety of lessons and information to make the adventure even more memorable.

“Besides the amazing experience of seeing the great apes in their habitat, the accommodations were amazing,” Ms Wright said. “We stayed in amazing lodges, bungalows and a hilltop eco-lodge, all with amazing views. I highly recommend the trip.”

“Now that the world is open to travel again, everyone can plan that once-in-a-lifetime trip,” said Olga Placerus, owner and president of Preferred Travel. “Many of our consultants have been traveling and enjoying great adventures this summer and are bringing great ideas and first-hand knowledge to better serve their clients. Whether our clients are looking for a relaxing week on a luxury cruise or trekking to see great apes, their bucket list trips can come true.” We are eager to help.
