The Brewers have now dropped two in a row to the division rival Pittsburgh Pirates on the heels of a solo home run from Bryan Reynolds. Fredy Peralta returned to the lineup in his first game back from injury. Tyler Beede got the start for Pittsburgh and had a rough outing, having to be replaced early.

Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead on Colton Wong’s RBI single. Renfroe then walked, getting the team to load the bases early, but Uriah grounded into a fielder’s choice, ending the hitter’s threat. Peralta then pitched a clean first inning in his return, allowing just one hit and three walks.

Biede is hit by beer in seconds and needs to be pulled. Narvaez and Taylor led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Yelich grounded into a fielder’s choice that ended with runners on the corners. Adames then hit a two-run homer to bring in Narvaez and Yelich. Then Peters was brought up to Pittsburgh and immediately allowed a single that scored Adams. McCutchen then doubled to left, but the Pirates were able to get out with runners stranded.

Pittsburgh scored in the bottom of the third when Hayes hit a two-run double to make it 4-2. But the Pirates tied the game late when Michael Chavis hit a double off Jake McGee in the bottom of the sixth that led to a Milwaukee error. That allowed Cruz to score and Chavez to advance to third. Marcano then scored Chavis to tie the game at 4-4.

The Pirates tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, this time from newcomer Matt Bush. Hayes hit a single to right that scored Reynolds and Cruz followed with a two-run blast to give Pittsburgh a 7-4 lead.

After three straight singles with two outs, the Brewers loaded the bases and Willie Adams hit a single that scored both Carattini and Taylor. Tellez singled to score Yelick and tie the game at seven. New Brewer Taylor Rogers pitched a clean eighth inning and did the job. But Devin Williams gave up the lead, a walk, and a home run to Brian Reynolds that ended the game at 8-7.

The streak ends Thursday as the Brewers hope to take the final game of a three-game set. Brandon Woodruff will take the mound along with Zach Thompson for the Pirates. After Thursday’s game, the Brewers will return home for a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch for Thursday’s game is at 11:35 CDT on Bally Sports Wisconsin and 620 WTMJ.
