A budget of up to 10 million euros has been raised to address the underrepresentation of women in European innovation
The European Union has announced funding for 134 women-led start-ups based on ‘deep technology’—R&D-intensive, advanced technologies.
Each winner of the WomenTechEU scheme will receive €75,000 and a mentoring grant, according to the European Commission on April 14, 2006.
In this second round of the scheme, with the total budget increased to 10 million euros, three times more companies have been selected compared to last year’s pilot call.
Funded by the European Innovation Ecosystem Work Program of the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program, the Women’s TechU Initiative aims to address the underrepresentation of women in deep technology.
The successful companies were selected from 467 applications and came from 26 countries, with 15% from Horizon Europe’s ‘expanding’ countries – those with low participation in the programme. More than 15 companies are university spin-offs.
The shortlisted companies are carrying out projects in a range of fields, including drug development, carbon capture, digital learning and autonomous robotics.
