The plates – Members of the Georgia Tech athletics senior staff Leah Thomas And Mike Flynn Both athletic directors were promoted to serve as athletic directors. Todd Stansbury announced Friday. Thomas serves as AD/Performance Nutrition and Flynn as Associate AD/Media Relations.
“Communication and nutrition are two pillars critical to the overall development of our student-athletes, and Mike and Leah have been instrumental in helping us excel in those areas,” Stansbury said. “They have served as mentors to our student-athletes and have been great representatives of our mission to build champions every day. We are committed to expanding our student-athlete development program and these well-deserved promotions are a testament to that. Mike and Leah look forward to helping our student-athletes succeed for years to come.
Thomas has been a member of the Georgia Tech athletics staff for 19 years. In the year She started as Nutrition Director in 2003.
In her elevated role, Thomas will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of student-athletes’ nutrition for optimal performance through personalized nutrition counseling and meal planning. A recognized leader in the field of sports nutrition, Thomas has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame Nutrition Showcase.
The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native was a senior cross country and track athlete at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, earning a bachelor’s degree in nutrition in 1999. Thomas moved to Atlanta to attend graduate school at Georgia State. degree in exercise science in 2003. Thomas is a registered and licensed dietitian, a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a certified specialist in sports dietetics, and a founding member of the Association of Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians.
Flynn joined the Georgia Tech Athletic Association staff as a communications and public relations assistant in June 2016. In his role, he serves as the primary communications contact for Georgia Tech football and is the primary spokesperson for the athletic department. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia Tech Athletics Communications and Public Relations Office.
Flynn spent 13 years at Appalachian State before arriving at Georgia Tech, where he served as assistant athletic director/sports information for the past 10 years. In the year He arrived in Boone, NC in 2004 as Assistant Sports Information Director before being promoted to Director in 2003. A member of Appalachian State’s athletics senior leadership team, Flynn managed all communications and advertising for the Mountaineers’ football and baseball programs.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Flynn was a member of the sports information staffs at TCU (2001-03) and Miami (Ohio) University (1999-2001). He holds a BA in Speech Communication from Miami (2001) and a Masters in Advertising/Public Relations from TCU (2003).
