Snow continues today, affecting travel.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Snow, sometimes heavy, continues to push across eastern Iowa this afternoon. Look for travel conditions to deteriorate as nighttime travel becomes more difficult as snow can accumulate.

Alerts: A winter storm warning is in effect for counties north of I-80, where the heaviest snow is expected and pockets of heavy snow will have significant travel impacts. Winter Weather Advisory for light totals and minor impacts along I-80.

Time: Snow has started in eastern Iowa. It will continue this afternoon and evening, gradually pulling out of the area overnight into the early hours of Friday.

Dimensions: A total of 3-7 inches is expected for warmer road temperatures and subsurface temperatures based on continued uncertainty in final amounts. This is very dense, wet snow and there is a very good chance that local concentrations can vary significantly. This means the dimensions in your driveway may be different compared to your patio table and yard. This is the case with many March and April snows and measurements can vary by several inches depending on the surface you are measuring from.

this week: Another system is still in development for eastern Iowa Saturday night into Sunday morning. A few inches of snow is possible with this system. We’ll go over today’s system first, then we can focus on more details for Saturday night.

next week: Generally cooler temperatures are expected next week, especially with highs in the 30s for the first half of the week. It looks like a return to the 40s with lots of rain and snow chances through the week.
