Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila, Quinnipiac’s Yaniv Perets and last season receiver Devon Levy are three of Northeastern’s Mike Richter Award winners, an annual honor given to the best Division I goaltender by a panel of voters in the hockey community.
Pietila, a junior from Howell, Michigan, is 23-9-3 with a 1.96 goals-against average and .931 save percentage. He also owns the Huskies’ single-season shutout record with 10, and 20 career shutouts this season, as well as the school record. He is second in wins, fourth in save percentage and fifth in minutes played.
He is a three-time semifinalist for the award. Three-time Hobey Baker nominee named CCHA Goalkeeper of the Month for October, January and February. The Huskies will host Northern Michigan on Saturday in the Mason Cup semifinals.
Perrets, a sophomore from Dollars-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, owns a 1.55 goals-against average to lead all Division 1 netminders. He owns a 28-3-3 record with a .927 save percentage. He has eight shutouts this season, second only to Pitilla. Perez was a finalist for the award last season.
The Perets and Quinnipiac begin their ECAC quarterfinal matchup against Yale on Friday.
Levi, a junior, went 17-11-5 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a nation-leading .932 save percentage. It has six closures. Richter posted a 21-10-1 record a year ago with a 1.54/.952/10-hit campaign last year.
Northeastern will face Providence on Saturday in the Hockey East quarterfinals.
The winner will be announced during the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida in April.
