If you think that turning academic studies into robots is a challenge, you are right. Turning academic AI research into products is brutal. But if you want the test 10x, then take that research and the fun prototype that comes out of the laboratory and make it a business-friendly company.

Robots operate in all kinds of wild contexts Restricted robots (AMR) to work with people and negotiate dynamic barriers in warehouses or factories. That’s a big challenge in the lab, but “real” robots don’t work in clean and tidy laboratories. They encounter dirty, dangerous and unstructured environments. And they have to take a beating and keep going no matter what.

In her new role as president and CEO, Kiva Algud joined Sarkos at the end of last year and oversaw the company’s product development and marketing. She is a technology executive with multi-billion dollar business experience in public companies and has spent more than 20 years introducing complex technologies to the market.

Prior to joining Sarcos, Allgood served as IOT’s global head of operations and as a pilot for Ericsson. She has previously served as General Business Development Officer for Gee Business Innovations and Managing Director of Gee Ventures and Business Innovation, Corporate Venture Company and General Electric Company Innovation Team.

Robert Player is CEO of Boston Dynamics. You’ve seen the company’s dog-like robot spot on countless displays and the TechCrunch Disrupt platform. Plain-led Boston Dynamics launches two commercial products.

He has been at the helm of Boston Dynamics for more than three decades. Launched and led the company’s initial work on human robots and eventually created the world’s most advanced robot, Atlas.
