Sai de Silva spills the tea for fashion month

[ad_1]

The hustle and bustle of fashion month is not for the faint of heart. This month is filled with beautiful designs from famous designers that will make us ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ on the runway. Many think their days are full of glitz and glamour—but behind every fashion content creator lies a chaotic calendar of tight schedules, multiple makeovers, multiple photo shoots, fitting appointments, multiple glam sessions, and more. No Meal breaks! If you’re lucky, you can put on some hydrating face masks while trying to get the look…

Business tips…

Preparing for the month involves booking multiple flights and hotels to major cities like Milan and Paris. My photographer and assistant joined me in this marathon because it is impossible to do it alone. Car service is also included because not only is it fast enough to get around the city back to back, but the car also serves as a mobile dressing room.

My clothes are actually packed in garment bags that contain Polaroid photos of my outfits. Each garment bag includes the outfit, jewelry, shoes and bag with a label so nothing is forgotten. Expect to usually spend 15 minutes changing your entire outfit in a moving vehicle before arriving at your next destination.

Every change means you need to create content for that particular aspect. Pop in the car with one outfit and get out in the other. You’ll feel like you’re doing magic tricks all season long. I set aside a few minutes for each look to shoot both video and footage because they are usually pressed for time. There isn’t much free time for meal breaks, so I highly recommend bringing an energy bar and snacks until it’s time for dinner. You typically fuel up on coffee and sustain on wine.

Sure, it might not sound glamorous, but there’s a reason I do it: I love fashion! It is my joy and pleasure to see that what a designer creates in each season never gets old. I love the way fashion transforms and tells a story without any necessary words. At least walking is art. It’s also amazing to see all your fashion friends from all over the world every season.

However, there are some downsides to fashion month: the fatigue seriously hits and your battery drains. You’re always ‘on’ from the network at shows or product dinners. You never spend during the month. As much as I love fashion month, some of my favorite moments are when it’s over I forget everything that happened and do it all over again six months later.

Sai Fashion Month Favorites

My favorite shows this season were Altuzarra, Tod’s, Max Mara, Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler, and although I didn’t attend the Valentino show, I looked it up online and loved the black tie pieces that were on display. As for my favorite trends for fall, consider: floor-length coats, leather opera gloves, sheer dresses, sharp shoulders, and leather ensembles.

And that wraps it up for fashion month, until next season…
