Letters to the editor

Here in Oregon, we are not the only ones feeling the evermore obvious effects of climate change. All over the world, countries have been experiencing fires, heat waves, storms and overall uncharacteristic weather in respective regions. Climate change does not only impact the weather, it also influences human health and disease, meaning that potentially deadly and/or contagious diseases are going to become more prevalent. The coronavirus likely will not be the last pandemic we see in our lives. With this rise of disease and natural disaster, global health programs like comprehensive primary health care and service delivery become all the more important for individuals and pandemic preparedness alike. Sen. Jeff Merkley has been a strong proponent for primary health care funding through the U.S. Agency for International Development, and we hope he will continue to push for an increase in funding.
