National travel center operator Pilot Co. has partnered with self-driving transportation company Kodiak Robotics Inc.
According to the release, the companies are developing a cargo port for autonomous off-road vehicles in the Atlanta area. Among other things, it offers independent truck pick-up and drop-off facilities; places for inspection and maintenance of vehicles; Loading capacity of trucks; and mapping and other data transfer capabilities for processing.
Earlier this year, Kodiak announced a new autonomous truck route between Dallas and Oklahoma City with CVA Logistics. He also established routes with US Xpress between Dallas and Atlanta. The company has been offering cargo commercially since 2019 and currently has six routes running regularly between Dallas and Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Oklahoma City and Jacksonville, Florida.
Pilot Co.’s nationwide travel centers and services combined with Kodiak technology will play a critical role in the nationwide deployment of autonomous vehicles, said John Tully, vice president of Pilot Co.
“As we make this strategic investment, we understand that our customers are looking for the right solutions to help them move their growing cargo, and Kodiak is a strong leader in the autonomous trucking space,” he said.
