Tori Emerson Barnes, vice president of public affairs and policy for the United States Travel Association, made the following statement after HR 6965—The Visit America Act—cleared the House Energy and Commerce Committee today in a 56-0 vote.

“We sincerely appreciate the support of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which unanimously passed the American Visits Act. The measures contained in this legislation—including the creation of an Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Travel and Tourism—will give travel a greater focus of energy and private sector cooperation, and help the United States compete for important international conferences and events.

“As travel and tourism grow again, this common sense legislation ensures that the federal government can focus on policies that support the continued recovery and future competitiveness of our industry.

“The US Travel Association is grateful to Representatives Titus and Case for sponsoring the Visit America Act, and to Chairman Pallone, Representative McMorris Rogers and members of the Energy and Commerce Committee for their strong support.

“We also thank Reps. Soto and Dunn for their work on the Travel and Tourism Act.

“The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee has approved S. 3375, the ‘Omnibus Travel and Tourism Act of 2021,’ which includes the Visit America Act and other policies that support travel recovery. We encourage Congress to enact these measures this year.
