Andrea Johnson / MDN Laura Dock is the new business manager for the public schools in Minot.

Laura Docken, business manager at New Minor Public School, said she is looking forward to making a difference in the community.

Dock, who took over from Scott Mumm on July 1, recently became the financial director of Watford City for three years. Before that, she was the business manager of Wahpiton Public Schools for 15 years.

When she saw the post office of a business manager for the Mentor Public School, Dock was suddenly drawn. She says her skill set is on budget management.

She was fascinated by all the positive things that were happening in Manot and public schools.

“I think Minot is going in the right direction.” She spoke last year about projects such as the school bond referendum. Minot will soon have a high school in North Minot. Magic City Campus will be transformed into a 9-12 campus and Central Campus will be transformed into a third high school in the city.

She is also impressed by the other projects that are being built at Trinity Hospital in southwestern Minot.

Doken, who grew up in New Rockford and later earned a master’s degree in business administration from North Dakota University, and her family first moved to the western part of the state because her husband was originally from Crosby. Docken, her husband, and the children moved into their new home in Minot a few weeks ago. Her daughter will be in eighth grade and her son will be in fifth grade this fall.

“They are very happy to be here.” Dokken said.

She said she wanted to be involved in the community and had previously volunteered to help with some children’s activities and service clubs.

The family is enjoying some summer activities in Minnesota and has joined the arts in the park and plans to attend a summer theater at Minnesota State University later this summer.

She said she looks forward to meeting new people and moving into her new home and new job.
