Mizzou secured a series win over Georgia on Senior Day

Mizzou’s baseball team defeated Georgia on the road in Saturday’s offensive shootout. With the win, the Tigers officially sealed the series victory over the Bulldogs.

Designated killer Dylan Leach played a hero at Taylor Stadium. With the game tied and one runner on the board in the bottom of the ninth, he hit a home run to clinch the win. The homer marked Leach’s third walk-off hit of the year.

The win over Georgia marks MU’s second-straight SEC series win.

The Bulldogs put up three runs in the first inning, however, the MU offense was able to take a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning. The two teams then exchanged punches and exchanged leads.

Luke Mann had a team-high three RBI, along with Matt Garcia, in the win. Mann hit a home run in the fifth inning, one homer away from tying the program’s all-time home run record. It was the sixth straight game the St. Louis native has knocked off the fence.

Ross Lovich, Helias alum Trevor Austin and and Hank Zeiler also posted runs on Saturday.

Head coach Steve Beiser and company went two through five pitches in their game against the Bulldogs. Javin Pimental got the start on the mound, but was pulled after a little more than three innings. He gave up six earned runs in five games.

Rorick Maltrude, Nick Smith, Zach Franklin and Austin Troiser all pitched in relief. Trotzer completed the win as he threw two innings allowing just one run on one hit. He also added five strikeouts.

Before the game, the Tigers honored 10 of their graduates: Hickman alum Cam Chick, Zach Franklin, Matt Garcia, Jacob Hasty, Dylan Leach, Rorick Maltrud, Kyle Potthoff, Ty Wilmsmeyer and Hank Zeisler. The team honored Luke Mann and Battle alum Trey Morris for top day honors.

Up next – Mizzou will play Georgia at 12 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Stadium for a playoff series.
