Celebrities Pay Tribute to Late Dame Vivienne Westwood

Celebrities and fashion industry tastemakers are remembering legendary British designer and longtime activist Dame Vivienne Westwood, who died on Thursday. She was 81 years old.


Westwood died peacefully surrounded by friends and family in Clapham, south London, according to a statement on Instagram. The cause of death was not immediately released.


“Vivien continued to do the things she loved until the very end, focusing on her art, writing her book and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life. Her creativity and influence over the past 60 years has been enormous and will continue to be so,” the label wrote in the announcement.


“The world needs people like Vivian to make a change for the better,” the label concluded.


Known to have revolutionized the fashion landscape, particularly in London in the mid-1970s, Westwood’s influence has influenced many stars, designers, stylists and models, who in turn have taken to social media to pay homage to the fashion icon.

Jamie Lee Curtis

of Halloween The actress paid tribute to Westwood in three Instagram posts, one of which recalled dating English singer Adam Ant, who gifted her a “huge box of clothes” from Westwood, which introduced her to the designer’s brilliance.


“I grew up in a very conservative family, my stepfather was in the Navy and my mother, a good girl, and they wore these pirate-like outfits that both excited and scared me,” Curtis wrote in the post’s caption.


“It was avant-garde and punk and dangerous and rebellious, none of those words that you apply to me, and I tried to dress it up,” she continued.


The Emmy nominee shared how she reintroduced her love for the label to her hairstylist Sean James (whom Curtis described in a separate post as Westwood’s “faithful and brand ambassador forever”).


“All these years I could see her magic through him. Boy, I wish I had those clothes today. A true icon. A talented lady,” Curtis concluded.


She also shared a photo of the cover of Westwood’s self-titled memoir, “Influential
@viviennewestwood Rest in PUNK.”

The former Spice Girl and famous fashion designer paid tribute to her industry colleague on her Instagram story, saying: “Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of iconic designer and activist Dame Vivienne Westwood. My thoughts are with her family at this incredibly sad time. V.B.
