Having traveled to Europe and recently in Mexico, I have been impressed that most restaurants I use use tableside credit card authorization terminals regardless of service level and price point. These devices allow the restaurant guest to pay by credit card or debit card by inserting a card into a mobile device or contactless. The card is not issued by the customer. In the US, these devices are now becoming more widespread, but have not yet reached critical mass.

Most agree that the use of these terminals can speed up table turns, thereby increasing business.

Lack of staff is another good reason for adoption.
