Is Generative AI Really Ready for the Enterprise?

OpenAI released ChatGPT. A few months ago, and it’s fair to say it took the world by storm: it has over 100 million active users. No wonder, then, that human-like, grammatically correct responses can be generated. Related technologies can produce artwork and code by entering the desired specification, and the technology will generate.

You can interact with the AI ​​even after your first question, so if you don’t like the results or need clarification, you can ask more questions or make adjustments to your drawing or code so it more closely matches your vision. All of this happens instantly without the help of a subject matter expert, artist or coder.

But none of this comes without issues, which include access to the data used to train the initial AI model, the currency of the training data, lack of permission to use the data source, bias in the model and perhaps most of all. of Accuracy Sometimes hilariously wrong answers.

None of this has stopped enterprise software companies from embracing generative AI. These companies see huge business potential and a lot of enthusiasm from consumers, and they clearly don’t want to be left behind.

Salesforce, Forethought, and Thoughtspot all recently announced betas of their own flavors of generative AI. Salesforce is adding generative AI to its platform. Forethought is targeting chatbots and Thinkspot wants to use AI for data querying. Each company takes the base technology and adds some algorithmic tweaks to tailor the tech to the platform’s specific requirements.

Microsoft has announced that its OpenAI service, aimed at enterprise users in Azure, is a managed service in general.

You can expect to see many more companies join this year, but the limitations are real, which makes us wonder: Is the technology – as early and raw as it may sound – really enterprise-ready?
