Job Description:

The School of Art and Design is seeking a full-time faculty member in Fashion Design.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced fashion industry designer with design leadership and experience, primarily within the industry segments of fashion design development concept and visual communication through manual and digital applications.

The candidate must be versatile, combining professionally practiced, hands-on illustration techniques with the execution of original design sketches and integrated design collections. The ability to successfully teach core AAS fashion design fundamentals courses with traditional and innovative methods is critical.

A minimum of six years of industry experience as a fashion designer is required, although the ideal candidate may have more than the minimum professional background.

In-depth knowledge of current successful fashion practices in various methods, understanding of market trends and use of new technologies are requirements for this position. The successful candidate should have exceptional skills in teaching students fashion drawing, textile work, flat design and a design collection approach. The candidate will develop and implement a new curriculum in collaboration with their departmental colleagues.

Minimum qualifications

A bachelor’s degree with six (6) years of professional experience as a fashion designer is required. Candidates must provide a strong fashion portfolio demonstrating professional work that includes relevant press and/or industry recognition. Digital skills used by fashion design professionals and certain related apparel software skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred.

Three (3) years or more of teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

This space is needed to constantly read and understand, to perform occasional calculations, to constantly communicate verbally, to analyze frequently and to write constantly. The working conditions of this position will be a combination of classroom, laboratory and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirements of this position require occasional sitting, standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasional lifting of 10 pounds. or less.
