CENTRAL MAINE BUSINESS BRIEF: Northern Light Inland Hospital has named Tim LeCron as director of operations.

Northern Light Inland Hospital has named Tim LeCron as its new chief operating officer. LeCron had previously been the manager of patient access at Inland for the past three years, according to a news release from the Waterville-based hospital.

Before joining Inland, he was the Director of Wellness and Athletics at Unity College and the Chief Operating Officer of the Alfond Youth Center. He received his bachelor’s degree in English and his master’s degree in teaching from the University of Maine at Orono.

USCellular donates $30,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville

USCellular has announced a $30,000 investment in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville to provide educational opportunities and experiences for local youth. The company has invested in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville to support K-12 science, technology, engineering, math and academic enrichment programs, according to a news release from the company.

The STEM education and experience offered is designed to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow, and according to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth Outcomes Study, youth in Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide show the highest interest in pursuing STEM careers. (52% versus 27%).

This year’s funding will help the club purchase tools, materials and equipment to increase hands-on participation and create a makerspace for STEM innovation. The club will also use the funds to purchase a 3D printer and materials to support field trips.

“We heard from parents and students that they think STEM is good for their future careers, but 48% of students and 41% of parents don’t know enough about the opportunities a STEM education can provide,” said Tabatha McKay, Environment. Vice President/General Manager of UsCellular in New England. “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville provide this critical access to help us build the bright and enthusiastic technology leaders of the future.”

The Tourism Council elects the officers of the Board of Directors

The Kennebec Valley Tourism Council has elected officials to its Board of Directors for a one-year term from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

They include Mike Guerinon, owner of Maine Wilderness Tours, as chair; Jackman City Manager Cheryl Nadeau, as Vice Chair; and Kimberly N. Lindlof, president and CEO of the Central Maine Chamber of Commerce and CEO of the Central Maine Growth Council as treasurer, with a news release from the council.

Christina Cannon, executive director of Main Street Skowhegan, will remain chair of the marketing committee.

He later spent two years with Bank South in Atlanta, Georgia, before returning in the early 1990s. Thomas College has hired a new athletic trainer.

WATERVILLE – Thomas College Athletics has hired Thomas Marshall as its new athletic trainer.

Marshall will join head athletic trainer Kirsten Keating as part of the college’s sports performance team.

“We are excited to have Thomas join our department,” said Christopher Parsons, vice president of athletics, in a news release from the college. “The health and safety of our student-athletes is very important, and we are excited to add another to our team.”

Marshall most recently served as an assistant athletic trainer at Colby College. He holds his athletic training certification, is licensed in the states of Maine and Pennsylvania and is certified in ImPACT, CPR and First Aid. He holds a Master of Science in Advanced Clinical Practice-Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from New England University.

“I’m excited to be working at Thomas,” Marshall said. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge and helping Thomas student-athletes become the best version of themselves on and off the field.”

Marshall started at Thomas on Monday.

Day jewelry merchants welcomed the new Vice President of Merchandising

Day Jewelers in Waterville has hired Julie Collins as vice president of merchandising at their corporate office. She previously worked as a datestone and watch buyer. She has worked for the company since 2002, becoming the office manager for the company’s Auburn location. She moved to an office manager position in the Manchester, New Hampshire area and worked as an inventory manager in the corporate office. She has spent 10 years in various categories including gemstones, watches, gold, silver fashion and giftware. Collins has an associate in science, as well as a bachelor’s degree in business. She and her husband, Mark, recently built a new home in Sydney; They live there with their two children.

Julie was hired on July 14th and started July 25th as the new Vice President of Merchandising for Day Jewelers. About being hired for the position, Julie said, “20 years ago I started working during the day knowing nothing about the jewelry business. This is an amazing industry with many people willing to share their knowledge and experience. I am thrilled to be leading our incredibly strong and experienced merchandising team.

In her new role, Collins will provide leadership, guidance and training to Day Jewelry’s 10 employees in the merchandising department. This department oversees the acquisition, quality control, distribution and safety of all products purchased or developed by the company. In addition, she oversees $15 million in daily inventory and will be responsible for maintaining relationships with the world’s largest diamond mining company for more than 200 gemstone and fine jewelry suppliers worldwide. Above all, Julie ensures that Day’s offers the best jewelry style and quality in the industry, so that Day’s can continue to seamlessly provide the best service to their valued customers.

Kathy Corey, the company’s former vice president of merchandising, purchased Day Jewelry with her husband, Jeff Corey, in 1988 and has been a major influence on the company’s success ever since. She will no longer be employed with the company, but will continue to serve on Day Jewelers’ board of directors.
