Vermont Business Magazine Sunday, July 24ThMore than 60 children from Vermont and New York who have or have experienced cancer gather at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta in South Hero, Vermont for Camp’s signature summer program. Joined by more than 125 volunteers from across the country, the camp will be the first in Ta-Kum-Ta to have a full residential program starting in February 2020, and organizers say everyone is excited.
“The jet packs are fueled, the rocket is ready for launch and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta is ready to head into space for our 2022 summer program.” Patrick Gallivan, director of space-themed programming, said Camp Ta-Kum-Ta Camp Director. “While our virtual offerings over the past two years have allowed for connection, we really miss being in person and laughing, singing, dancing, climbing and swinging, creating our best arts and crafts, and sharing those simple moments together. . We are ready to return! If you happen to look up at the night sky during the last week of July and see something you don’t know, fear not… We, swinging from the stars, will be the Ta-Kum-Ta family.
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta conducted virtual programs due to the health risks that Covid poses to children with cancer under the leadership of the Camp Safety and Health Advisory Team. Since then, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta has created a monthly virtual program to maintain relationships with their campers and their families. Now, the Camp Safety and Health Advisory Group says it’s safe to return to in-person programming with caution.
“We’re so glad to be back in person!” Camp Ta-Kum-Ta Executive Director Dennis DePaul said: “Throughout the pandemic, our families have trusted us and, happily, our campers can’t wait to get back together. Covid-19 prevention protocols are still important because we serve immunocompromised children. We are doing our best to create the most magical experience possible while following precautionary measures. It may look a little different from previous years, but the joy and love will undoubtedly shine through.
Camp Gap’s themed programming includes building a space suit, a dance party under the stars, a Starship Academy scavenger hunt and classic camp activities like swimming, climbing a ropes course, arts and crafts and bonding with friends on the camp’s 103-acre property. . Campers will have an experience out of this world!
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta offers year-round programs for children with or without cancer and their families.
