Springfield, Mo. Crews are expected to break ground on the state’s first Busey Travel Center in Springfield next week. The 53,000 square foot space includes 120 gas stations and a large selection of food and beverage options.

Buc-ee’s travel centers are especially popular in southern states, including Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Florida. The company operates 43 stores in the United States and is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Springfield City Council at 3200 N. It approved an agreement in January to rezone some land along I-44 for a Book E location in Mulroy Road. Those improvements include a new public road and more amenities in the Springfield area.

“Springfield is the birthplace of Route 66,” Buckeye’s Stan Baird said in a news release. “It’s only natural that Buc-ee’s, the ultimate road-trip destination, is coming to this part of beautiful American history. We are thrilled to be a part of this community and excited to make Springfield our first stop in Missouri.

Buc-ee’s is expected to bring at least 200 jobs to the Springfield area. The groundbreaking ceremony for the future location is scheduled for August 23 at noon.
