BINGAMON (WBING) – This school year, 14 Broome-Tioga BOCES New Vision Business Academy students from across the region launched a company called “Venture Prize” and sold two community-focused products.

The students presented their Junior Success Company at the Coffman South Tier Incubator Wednesday morning.

One of their products is a puzzle of pictures from around Broome County, and another is an eight-pack of note cards with pictures from around downtown Binghamton, taken by one of the members.

Windsor Central High School senior Jillian Barnes said it’s rewarding to be able to help the company by tying in her personal hobby.

The project took place in less than three months and during that time the students worked to raise a net income of $5,917.42. This is the highest amount the New Vision team has ever done.

New Vision Business Academy focuses on finance, business management, marketing and human resources. Students gain first-hand experience working with local businesses and industry partners.

During Wednesday morning’s presentation, they gave back $4,500 to local charities.

Charities include Room for Healing, Hope Ministries/Showers of Hope, Binghamton Rescue Mission, Southern Tier Mental Health Association and Community Hunger Supply Pantry.

Maine-Endwell High School senior Brian Cook’s biggest takeaway from the experience was all the new people he met and all the connections he made. If not for the program, he said, he would never have interacted with students from other schools.
