Bowman’s Travel Brief: Cruising’s Big Thing

Is it just me or are you seeing shipping ads that seem to be everywhere these days?

This past weekend, I was watching the NFL games and every commercial break showed a commercial for a picnic.

I absolutely love it.

We’re in Wave Season right now, when cruise deals are heating up, and bookings are piling up for cruises and all types of travel.

Now trending

Travel consultants are now busy taking tons of calls and inquiries and preparing their clients for amazing vacations.

But demand for cruises is sky high and many advisors tell me they have clients booking not just 2023 cruises, but even 2024 and 2025.

The big push in advertising shows that the industry is in a good place. However, I wonder if the cruise lines feel like they need a wider reach for direct bookings to consumers – the ads don’t really promote you to book your travel advisor.

Depending on the cruise line, 70 percent or more of all reservations are completed through Trip Advisor.

I would love it more if cruise lines doubled down on sharing with their consumers the importance of booking through Trip Advisor.

It’s great that the industry is booming again, but cruise lines can’t forget how important travel advisors are to their overall business. Sure, they love direct-to-consumer bookings, but to me, there’s huge revenue potential in doing your best to keep travel advisors loyal to your brand.

But do you want to do the big push cruise lines? I think those who do will really reap the rewards.
