Dear Travel Troubleser After a recent accident, I had to cancel my flight at Algiers Air. The airline sent me a $ 117 voucher. Shortly afterwards, Alejandro announced that it would shut down our Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. I’m sure I can’t use this voucher.

Answer: You canceled your flight, so Alejandro did what he had to do – provide a voucher for your ticket size.
But By the end of 2021, Alejandro said he would stop operating at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, citing the high cost of serving that market. When an airline goes out of business, you are in a gray area when it comes to consumer protection regulations. There is no requirement in the Transportation Policy to refund your ticket. But as a matter of fact, airlines often return when they arrive.
Your case was a little unusual because Alejandro did not respond to your emails. I wondered why. They were short and polite – and they were sent directly to the vice president of operations. He may have thought that the Algerian customer service team would be able to drive to Cincinnati, where he still serves. Many passengers who want a deal on the tariff spend a little more time in the car, but the four-hour drive to the airport is not worth it. And, of course, the Algiers sold you tickets from Cleveland, not Kinshasa.
If the airline does not serve your home airport, you will have to refund your ticket in full – or credit for your ticket. It is a common thought. On your behalf, I have spoken to the Algerians.
