Pittsburgh Amtrak customers can travel to the Big Apple in style with upgraded trains

PWhen Amtrak introduces its updated Aero fleet starting in 2026, Etzberger can ride the rails in a lap of luxury to the Big Apple.

Thirteen others Amtrak Including Keystone service (also in Pennsylvania), Northeast Regional, Cascades, Palmetto and Virginia services will see new Amtrak Aero trains.

“As we invest in the future, Amtrak is leading the way in a new era of rail,” Amtrak President Roger Harris said in an Amtrak press release. “Our new trains will transform the Amtrak experience with great environmental benefits, progressive design and world-class standards.”

The new trains operate at speeds of up to 125 mph and offer a seamless transition between power sources that previously required time-consuming locomotive changes.

Amtrak’s Aero fuel-efficient trains feature modern and spacious interiors, redesigned cafe cars, improved lighting, USB ports, on-board Wi-Fi and other amenities. Tickets in Business Class allow you to choose between single and double seats for more flexibility and comfort.

“Americans deserve modern, safe, reliable passenger rail service, and the introduction of new railcars is a big step toward improving the daily experience for passengers and travelers who rely on Amtrak,” FRA Administrator Amit Bose said in a release.

Amtrak’s move forward includes major infrastructure projects, service expansion, station improvements, modernization efforts and improved track capacity along the Northeast Corridor.

A portion of Amtrak’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding will support the purchase of Amtrak Aero, manufactured by Siemens in California.

Rochling Industrial, Mitt Pleasant, Westmoreland County, recently won a contract bid with Amtrak to produce parts for the new trains, according to one. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Text. The company plans to expand its custom plastics factory in preparation for the Amtrak project.
