A Central Texas business rescued a cat stuck in a tree for 24 hours

Lorena, TexasKWTX) – A cat survived being stuck in a tree for 24 hours.

Mosby Land Management Services in Chilton advertises everything from land clearing to demolition and road construction to dirt work, but they don’t list rescue cats.

“I don’t remember doing anything like this before,” said owner Josh Mosby, who has run the business for 23 years.

That all changed last week when Mosby needed help from a friend’s family in Lorena to get their beloved cat Loki down from a tree.

“My cat, Loki, climbed this tree. I mean there, and we tried with local law enforcement and sheriffs, and what not, to see if anyone could help get this cat out of the tree without help,” said Lorena resident Mary Ann Pope.

Mary Ann and her sister Judy Hood rescued 4-month-old Loki in DeSoto at just 3 weeks old after reading a Facebook post from a woman looking for a home for a cat who had been abandoned by his mother.

Mary Ann and Judy drove to get the cat, brought him home, and Mary Ann fed him a bottle. Mary Ann said it helped them form a special bond.

Last Monday, at 4:15pm, the sisters were enjoying the afternoon sunshine at their rural property in Bullhead Creek when Loki got up and started out for the first time.

“Like a movie playing in slow motion,” says Mary Ann. “I saw my sister jump out of her chair and run down the little hill to that tree and then I saw Loki hit the tree.”

The family tried for hours to get the cat down but were unsuccessful. Their possessions include owls and hawks, so they were worried that their night would bring evil.

Mary Ann frantically tried to get help by spreading the word on social media and calling several law enforcement agencies, but to no avail.

Mary Ann’s brother-in-law then sent his friend Mosby a Facebook message, which Mosby thought was a joke at first.

“Do you still have a bucket truck? . I said, ‘Well, what did you get? What help do you really need?’ He said, “No, really. A cat got stuck in a tree. I was there at least one day,’ Mosby recalled.

Mosby and his animal-loving sister, Judy Hood, who works in the office, piled into the truck and drove 30 miles to the site.

They then use a bucket truck to lift Judy into the air and Loki from the tree.

“We got the cat out of the tree. My sister-in-law did all the work. I just ran the bucket control and got the cat down,” Mosby said.

Mosby tells Mary Ann that she won’t pay him anything, though she insists on paying something, even gas costs.

She says it’s the least she can do.

“He came out and got my little man out of the tree for me and I’m so thankful and grateful for his hospitality and the warmth he shared,” Mary Ann said. “He seemed to enjoy going out and helping those in need, and living in the country, I understand that it’s very difficult to get any other kind of help so I’m very grateful to him.

Mary Ann posted the video of the rescue on social media, but Mosby said he didn’t respond pending recognition.

He says he did it because it was the right thing to do.

“The biggest thing is that we’ve been doing things for a long time and you get to a point in your life where it’s not necessarily about making a living,” Mosby said. “You have to do things to help things and every once in a while someone is in a pinch, and you have to help them and if you can’t do that, what are you doing? You’re doing it. Sometimes there are more important things than making money.”

Loki has been enjoying the country view this week, resting on the seal of an interior window at home.

His family says this will do until they build a cat house for him under the porch.
