Louis Vuitton brought new surprises to the fashion and art scene this week. Presented ahead of Milan Fashion Week, the new exhibition featured New York graffiti stories and a limited edition sneaker collaboration. This exhibition was instrumental in reviving the memory of LV’s former creative director, Virgil Abloh. Abloh first came up with the idea for this project. Now, we can finally see its functionality.

Overall, Abloh has included some of the best street artists in the process. This includes Lady Pink, Lee Quinos and Rummelzy. They have become popular graffiti and street icons as they turn subway stations and trains into movable canvas. Everything happened in the 70s and 80s. Also, they represent an important period for modern art history and the NY graffiti movement.

The title of the exhibition is “White Canvas: LV Coach in Residence”. Garage Travesi is where the exhibition will be held on March 16. Lady Rose and Quinones participated in a live drawing event last Thursday. Also, they created some walls for this scene. A collection of early works by all artists is on display, including two sculptures by Rummelzi.

Lady Pink and Queens each colored a pair of the house’s leather LV trainers, while shoemakers at Louis Vuitton painstakingly replicated the last detail at the company’s Fiesso d’Artico facility. The sneaker launch and collaboration comes at an exciting time, just before Pharrell Williams became creative director.

Skye Gellatly, co-founder of creative agency and artist management firm Icnclst, spoke about Abloh’s ambitions for the project. He said everything they do, they do it around the world in art, music and sneakers. Together, they think about those artists and the art they make, so they want to accelerate the narrative around them.

To take care of this project, Abloh and Gelatly knew they had to go back to the source. “We thought this would be a way for young people to get into these artists, the sneaker vehicle,” says Gellatly. For Gelatly, putting this collaboration into action and fulfilling Abloh’s vision has been an emotional yet fulfilling experience.

“This project is completely personal, not professional at all,” says Gelltly. “As my friend, I know how much these artists mean to him. Growing up, he saw them as superheroes.” He continued, “I owe a lot to Virgil, and I’m trying to do exactly what he wanted to be, holding on and following.
