Local tailor Jonathan Triplett found his passion in designing menswear during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown.
It’s true, when you look good you feel good, and Triplett is all about making men feel good about themselves.
“I’ve been in fashion for a long, long time. Jonathan Triplett, owner of Elm Grove Clothing, has loved fashion since I was a child.
The college administrator worked in colleges all over the world during the day, but he was forced to his fate.
“The pandemic came and I had to reinvent myself, because when it was in university administration, everyone was virtual, so no one was on campus and jobs weren’t available,” said Triplett.
He started doing what he loved the most, designing menswear and simply posted the pictures on Facebook.
“Facebook is my biggest channel as far as reaching people and I post everything on Facebook, so I did that to keep other people’s attention,” Triplett said.
At first Triplett wanted models for his addiction, but as a new business he quickly realized that wasn’t an option.
“I decided to do it myself. That’s why all the photos started with me and our company because that’s all we had to do,” says Triplett.
He named it after his childhood neighborhood in Arkansas, Elm Grove, and two years later, custom clothing is popping up everywhere.
“We did a few outfits for Coach Gundy at OSU for Senator Kevin Matthews, we did some pieces for him just to name a few,” Triplett said.
Each garment is custom made just like the sticker and has the customer’s name on it.
“I come out, take your measurements, and you pick out what you want, and it takes three to four weeks for the charges to come back,” Triplett said.
But in making clothes, Jonathan realizes that this is a luxury that some men never get to experience.
“This year too, we will give clothes to the community. So anyone who wants to get free clothes for a local organization or youth group or something like that, we give out free clothes.
Giving back is certainly kind of personal for Triplett.
“I didn’t have that growing up, I couldn’t afford a full suit, and I know a lot of people can’t afford a suit,” Triplett says.
