Vermont Business Magazine Alyssa Burkey, a sophomore on the University of Vermont track and field team, announced today that she has signed a Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) agreement with SEAAV Athletics. Bourque will be a brand ambassador and model for the company. She recently participated in a photo and video shoot to represent the brand. According to the agreement, she will make a commission on the sale of clothes.
Bourque, 19, of Benton, Maine, created the partnership with SEAAV through a partnership with Pliable Marketing, a company that helps high school, college and professional athletes build their brands. Bourque joins Norwich University hockey player Rylie McIntyre as a compliant client in Vermont.
Earlier this year, Burke signed on for NIL representation from Pliable Marketing. She worked directly with Greg Glynn, founder and CEO of Playable, and McKenna Haze, founder and CEO of SEAAV Athletics, to create the Neal deal.
“I am proud to partner with SEAAV Athletics because of the brand’s commitment to the environment. The clothing is really comfortable, so it feels good to wear it and support the company’s mission to protect the planet. I wanted to find a meaningful way. To use my name, image and likeness in a positive way and this It was a perfect opportunity,” said Burkey, a University of Vermont shot putter.
The SEAAV suit is made from recycled materials, including plastic bottles. Each SEAAV garment is made from recycled polyester, which reduces emissions by 75 percent, water use by 90 percent, and energy use by 50 percent.
As part of the Neal deal, the company created a custom promo code “ALYSSA15” that people can use at SEAAVAthletics.com to save 15 percent on their order. Bourque earns a commission on all sales using her promo code.
In June 2021, the Supreme Court decision upheld a lower court ruling that the NCAA’s restrictions on “education-related benefits” to college athletes violated antitrust laws. Because of this, college athletes have the opportunity to use their name, image and likeness.
Earlier this summer, Burkey teamed up with her younger sister, Kaylin, to produce a public service announcement for the Waterville Humane Society. The two sisters made an in-kind donation of $5,000 in their names, images and likenesses to support the organization and show their love for animals.
In June, the two sisters threw out the first pitches at the Portland Sea Dogs game to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX. The Burkey sisters are champions in their work to popularize women’s sports in Maine, and are among the first athletes to secure a name, image and likeability in the state.
“Alyssa’s passion for the environment made this a great NEAL partnership opportunity. As a track and field athlete, she’s always looking for comfortable athletic wear, so this was a perfect fit for her. Now she can save and save the planet. People earn money from SEAAV Athletics with high-quality clothing,” said Pleabl. Founder and CEO Greg Glynn said.
