Uber is partnering with Holmdel-based charter bus rental company US Coachways to launch a new service for group travel in the New Jersey and New York metro areas.
Uber Charter, announced Aug. 18, allows users to book a party bus, coach or limo for six or more people directly within the Uber app. According to the company, the new service is suitable for group trips, parties or corporate trips.
“Whether it’s a wedding, a weekend trip to Montauk, wine tasting in the Hudson Valley, or a work event, it’s easy for customers in the Tri-State area to book a great car for their next group outing. ” Uber’s head of rider operations, Neeraj Patel, said in a statement.
“Pricing is transparent, booking is fast, and payments are seamless” for the new service, Patel added. Uber Charter’s website states that there is a $25 deposit fee and that additional fees and charges may apply.
Uber, which is headquartered in San Francisco, said users can check prices before booking and can add and remove stops up to three days before the trip. Payment is done in the app just like any other Uber ride.
Drivers can choose extras such as a DVD player, outlets/USB ports, Wi-Fi and whether or not alcohol is allowed.
The service is currently available for trips from northern and central New Jersey, as well as Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Westchester County, Nassau County, New York’s Suffolk County.
The service is available in the Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston metro areas, and will roll out to additional cities over the next few months. Uber Charter will add Sprinter vans in the coming weeks.
