Patriotic tops and bottoms, prom dresses and Grinch costumes were among the styles on display at this year’s Logan County Fair 4-H Fashion Revue, held in the Dorothy Korsberg Theater at Northeastern Junior College on Friday evening.
Participants in four classes decorate or make a dress and then model it. The judging is based on the posture, manners, dress, attitude and attire of the model. This includes fit for the model, choice of texture, color and style, fit and accessories.
The judges for the show were Sharon Blackham and Andrea Young, and Ms. Heather Brungart.
This year’s winner of the junior division was Remington Gerlach, who was ready to rock her outer space dress in her first year of costume construction. She chose the 100% cotton fabric because it looked fun and was a different color than most of the clothes in her closet. As a gift from her grandmother and great-grandmother, who helped her sew the dress, they made her a matching reversible skirt and headband to match the dress.
He was Mia’s friend, the reserve champion in the junior division. She wore the skirt and top she sewed on her first year 4-H sewing project. To make her dress, she used 100% tea fruit with small red and yellow flowers to match her personality. She paired it with her favorite western belt and cowboy boots, a turquoise butterfly necklace and turquoise earrings and bracelet.
Other competitors in the junior division were Paisley Morgan, Lily Johnson and Brenyn Kayley.
The champion of the intermediate division was Taylor Tribet, who wore her first-year outfit, Turn Your Style Up. She decided to rock a pair of “Proud to be American” themed jeans and paired it with red, white and blue star earrings, American flag sunglasses, a USA t-shirt and white shoes.
The intermediate reserve champion was Piper Wiers, who modeled the Grinch outfit she made for her costume design project.
The dress was made in separate parts, so it will be easy to put on and take off. To cover her shoes, she pinned a piece of fabric to the bottom of her pants, then added elastic so she could slide the pants over her shoes and keep them in place as they walked. For the hoodie top, she added an inside pocket to stuff a full belly.
Other contestants in the intermediate division were Dakota Coggin and Zally Blecha.
The senior division champion was Ashton Nichols, who brought her style project to the top. She painted red and white stripes and white stars on light colored jeans and took a white t-shirt to go with them and used the letters USA on it in red fabric and also painted custom initials and whip shoes to match. Nichols accessorized her look with a patriotic bracelet and simple earrings.
The reserve champion of the senior division was Ayla Bani. She designed a pair of leopard jeans that she wore to Sterling High School football games and spirit days, with orange and black palm prints on the pockets, her graduation year on the leg and a bright orange ribbon along the seam. Bunny paired his jeans with a black t-shirt, studded diamond earrings and tennis shoes.
Both Nichols and Bunny will represent Logan County at the Colorado State Fair.
Other competitors in the senior division included Natalie Adels and Mattia Pelton.
The encore division champion was Withers, who wore a long-sleeved shirt with bows on top, paired with a gray cardigan, light wash ripped skinny jeans and dusty gray knee-high boots with a fun leather design. She completed the outfit with gold jewellery.
The reigning champion in the encore division was Ashton Nichols, who modeled a dress given to her by her best friend.
The beautiful floor-length royal blue dress features a sweetheart neckline with a sheer overlay, spaghetti straps and a zipper back closure. A flowing, high-waisted A-line dress is topped with a shimmering appliqué. She paired it with a pair of high heeled silver glitter shoes, bright silver earrings and a simple diamond necklace.
Other contenders in the encore division include Adeles, Bunny, Sarah Royce, Pelton, Tribett, Friend, Kylie and Gerlach.
Along with the models in the judged categories, the show featured 2022 rodeo royalty and 2023 contestants.
