The collection marks the arrival of his high fashion streetwear brand archives.

Great things happen in life when one does the impossible. In Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” a young girl lists at least six impossible things before breakfast. And before her day was over, she saw things that were truly out of this world. 21-year-old fashion designer Ellis Ko lists the impossible in his paintings. First is establishing a brand, then launching a huge runway show, and within seven months, bringing the future to the present. His wonderland has not yet been determined. But according to the first designs, it is not far from happening.

Ellis Co., founder and design director of archives

For his upcoming collection, titled “Memories of the Future,” Ellis is inviting everyone to “remember the future” as he tries to blend the past with the future in design. The launch, which will be held on July 27 at Whitespace Manila in Makati City, marks the arrival of the high-fashion streetwear brand’s archives.

“I chose the brand name Archives because the clothes I make are timeless and durable,” says Ellis. “I see these pieces as my legacy as a designer for years to come and years after I’m gone.”

Leading the brand as founder and design director, Ellis looked to Brutalist architecture as the guiding inspiration for his upcoming collection. He married the elegant and geometric beauty of modern Japanese fashion. Therefore, creating rooms that touch on modern images and unique proportions.

“When I design, I focus on the image, how the shape looks, how the piece wears,” says the designer. “Basically, I’m trying to do something that hasn’t been done yet but is still common. I try to find what I don’t know.”

Before becoming an aspiring fashion designer, Ellis first showed his creativity in music as a rapper, lyricist and producer. He did this as assistant vice president of operations for his family’s real estate and construction company. During his music career, he worked with music video creator Reika Mayani, who has worked with local music artists like James Reed, Ace Banzulo and Reason, to name a few. Currently, Rika serves as the Creative Director of Records.

The “Future Memories” show is directed by Frank Mamaril and goes beyond the standard runway presentation. Described as a multi-sensory event, the launch will include a designer-inspired graphic projection, a molecular gastronomic experience and a perfume station, leading to a fashion show with original music played by Ellis in the background. Think of it as a style trip of déjà vu, because that’s what the show is aiming to be.
