Six months ago, Xiaomi released the 12 series, and now it’s on the Xiaomi 12S line – including the Ultra phone we missed earlier this year.
As a matter of fact, the three 12S phones in China – 12S, 12S Pro and 12S Ultra – are the first to carry the Leica logo and are a sign of long-term camera cooperation between the two companies.
Here’s what we know about the three phones, including their chances of launching in the West.
When will the Xiaomi 12S launch worldwide?
Xiaomi unveiled the three 12S phones in China on July 4, but what about the other one?
It took two months for the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro to launch globally, so we expect the 12S to arrive globally some time later. September.
It is thought that they will begin. Last year, the Mi 11 Ultra did not officially launch in the West, and Xiaomi has already confirmed to a tech consultant that “the series will not be coming to the UK.”
There is still a chance to hit other markets outside of China, although we now consider it a long shot. We hope to find out more soon.
How much do 12 S phones cost?
Starting with China alone, we still have only Chinese prices for the phones, but here’s how they change around the world.
- Xiaomi 12S – from ¥ 3,999 ($ 600 / £ 490 / € 570)
- Xiaomi 12S Pro – from ¥ 4,699 (around $ 700 / £ 580 / € 670)
- Xiaomi 12S Ultra – from ¥ 5,999 ($ 900 / £ 740 / € 860)
What are the details of Xiaomi 12S?
Now that Xiaomi has released the 12S series in China, we know the details of all three phones. Here’s how to store them.
Details of Xiaomi 12S
The standard 12S will be the smallest and cheapest of the phones in the series, but don’t take that for granted. Available in black, purple, green and new white finishes.
Xiaomi
It uses a 6.28in display the same size as the Xiaomi 12, making things nice and compact. As you can expect, the 120Hz AMOLED will be in Full HD + resolution – just like the previous one.
There are still some major performance improvements. Most obviously, like all 12S phones, it uses Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. That should result in some modest performance gains and perhaps better battery life – although the actual cell has the same 4500mAh capacity, 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The camera has also been upgraded. The main rear lens is still 50Mp, but it now uses the upgraded Sony IMX707 sensor – used in the 12 Pro earlier this year – along with the OIS. Like all three new phones, it features behind-the-scenes branding that helped the camera company Xiaomi improve its image quality.
As with all smartphones, Xiaomi 12S Android 12 and MIUI 13 will be installed.

Details of Xiaomi 12S Pro
Like the standard Xiaomi 12 line, the 12S Pro is only slightly smaller than the 12S in the hierarchy, and is larger and has better special cameras and displays.
Xiaomi
Like the 12S Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, you get it, but thanks to the slightly cooler performance, it’s a great cooler. Choice chipset is basically the only key upgrade from the 12 Pro.
The large 6.73in E5 AMOLED display can be a big drawer for many supported by the dynamic 1-120Hz refresh rate and high 2K resolution – although this is basically no change from the 12 Pro.
You also get the same fast charging as the 12 Pro (120W wired, 50W wireless) and the same rear camera setup.

Details of Xiaomi 12S Ultra
12S Ultra is a much different phone. That is immediately clear from the design – the 12 S Ultra is not only large but also has a completely different round rear camera module, surrounded by a 23K gold ring.
Xiaomi
Unlike last year’s Mi 11 Ultra, there is no space for a small rear display, and instead this space bank is about the right camera – although we’ll get to it in a minute.
The phone comes in a vegan leather finish, available in two colors, black classic and veranda green. It is also rated IP68 for water resistance.
Regarding the display, you will get 6.73in 120Hz LTPO 2.0 AMOLED in 2K resolution. Like the other two phones, it uses 12S Ultra Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.
Ultra is designed to captivate the battery. The 4860mAh battery has a 67W wired charger and a 50W wireless battery – so it has a slower charger than the 12 Pro, but has a slightly larger battery. It also includes a proprietary Surge G1 battery management chipset.
Xiaomi
Now let’s go to the camera. Previous reports suggest that Ultra may be the first of Samsung’s 200Mp camera sensors, in fact the phone will use a new Sony sensor for the main camera, at f / 1.9. The new IMX989 is known as a 1-inch sensor – similar to the one installed on Sony’s Xperia Pro-I.
With 48Mp ultrawide and 5x periscope lenses, basically the same camera configuration as the M11 Ultra is outside the modified main lens. The fourth rear-view lens is simply a deep search of the Tof sensor, while the selfie camera is a 20Mp shooter.
