WINCHESTER, Ky. (Lex 18) – The streets of Winchester look good on the surface, but beneath those downtown streets lies a very different story. Several pipes have burst in recent days as our big freeze turned into a big melt.
“They said we’d be closed for lunch (Tuesday) and they were hoping we’d be open for the dinner rush, but it looks like Lowe’s is sold out because we’re having trouble getting the rooms,” Engine House manager Tiffany Strange said. Pizza Pub.
Lowe’s was sold because many people in the commonwealth had the same issue, she said. The Hall Coffee & Social Club here on Main Street was a hit over the weekend.
“They checked the water meter and it was cracked. It’s cold and cracked, says Jessie Hall, on a coffee break.
The hall had to be closed for a few hours Saturday morning as crews had to shut off the water to replace that cracked meter.
“Saturday mornings are a little busier for us, so we’ve lost a little bit of business,” Hall said.
The motor home was without receipts for the entire day on Tuesday. They will try to complete this weekend with a very good forecast.
“We have some plans for New Year’s Eve, and karaoke on Friday, so we’ll make it up,” Strange said.
In addition to the problems at those facilities, a pipe under a main road that supplies water to the fire suppression system also broke. That was replaced and crews were laying asphalt Wednesday morning.
