Listen, I know everyone is excited about travel after two years of living with locks and lots of uncertainty. But I am here to remind you of one thing; Your kids have forgotten how to travel and maybe you’ve forgotten what it’s like to travel with kids. On road trips the car starts to smell worse and worse and you can’t hear the GPS while your kids are fighting in the back seat. Long lines at the airport, flights where your kids will see people if they make noise. But trains are an under-appreciated way to get where you’re going, especially with kids. And especially if gas is ridiculously expensive these days, airports are scary, but you still want to get out and travel with your kids. Want more convincing? Read it.

#1. You can enjoy the ride.

As the person footing the bill for your vacation, it’s best to enjoy some of it yourself. Even the trip. And if you’re planning to travel throughout Florida this year, there’s a new train line connecting the cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach that will make you feel like you’re going to Europe without actually going to Europe. Europe. I was recently invited to join Bryline on tour, and let me tell you…it was a vacation in itself. Sipping a mimosa, I slide into my oversized seat, not worrying about parking or checked baggage. A dream.

You can hop on a sleek and stylish modern train with your kids and just look out the window. Cozy and relaxing because there is wifi to keep the kids occupied and best of all, snacks. A premium ticket gets you free mimosas, free coffee, free snacks… you might want to ride the rails all day. And so will your children.

#2. Moving is very easy.

Anyone who’s ever been on a plane with their kids knows the struggle of keeping them strapped in and keeping them still when everyone around you is cursing you for every sound you make. Another smart thing about traveling with Brightline? Basically you sit facing each other in your own little living room. Children can move safely.

#3. Flying is now impossible.

You’ve heard the airport horror stories just now. Flight delays, cancellations, sitting on the tarmac with angry, sweaty kids waiting to get off. Why bother yourself?

#4. Two words: children. Lounge

There are kids’ lounges to let off some steam while you’re at Brightline stations. Separate areas for children who want to run and be free during the holidays. Conveniently close to a nice bar where you can maybe hang out a bit. Pure genius.

#5. Let’s talk about seats.

Seats on trains come with more space for activities and sightseeing. Bright line

Over the past few decades, airplane seats have become smaller and somewhat less comfortable. Go ahead and try stretching your legs or doing any work on a laptop and see if you can manage that for any length of time. The train seats are large, and the space to stretch out and work on Brightline, or if it’s a child, watch a show on your iPad, is very easy to accommodate. Instead of scrambling under the seat in front of you, you have an overhead tray and plenty of room to put your luggage.

#6. Have you seen gas prices?

Gas prices are still beyond the means of most families, so train travel is also an economical choice. Kids 12 and under can ride on BlueLine for $5 with the purchase of an adult SmartFare, which gets you access to a whole host of family-friendly activities in the area.

#7. You can create your own little all-inclusive resort.

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to walk in the clouds? Take your kids to the Superblue Museum where they can walk through the clouds for an interactive afternoon. Then take the train to Fort Lauderdale, where you can spend a sunny afternoon visiting the family canals or, if it rains, check out the Museum of Discovery and Science and let the kids try out the flight simulators. Interactive dinosaurs, and loads of other STEM grade fun should tire them out. We all know that it is a sign of a good vacation with children. When you need a break, just hit the sand at West Palm Beach and wander downtown for a bite to eat and maybe a cocktail for yourself.

This summer, Brightline is offering a certified pass for children 12 years old and riding the railroad. You’ll receive an activity bag with your first Brightline Trainee Passport where you’ll have the chance to earn special rewards for collecting stickers as you travel to new destinations.

#8. Your kids will feel like they are in a movie.

You know why kids like to travel by train, right? They’ve seen it on film, just like we have. Whether you are a Harry Potter fan or you love it Polar Express, trains are always presented as the best way to travel. In fact, for kids who love Christmas, Brightline delivers Polar ExpressThe train ride from Miami is complete with Santa Claus, just like in the movie who delivers hot chocolate and cookies, dancing waiters in the train cars, and special treats for the kids. This special train ride takes place over the Christmas holidays but tickets will sell out soon.

The last thing any parent needs this summer is a stressful family vacation. Why not ride the rails and make it easy for yourself?
