Working with Norwich Solar, Wayside is partnering with 5 other businesses and cities on a 500kW community solar array in Perkinsville, Vermont (Town of Weatherfield, Windsor County). Bipolar solar panels are very modern. In addition to collecting sunlight on the front of the panel, the back part also collects light. These panels work twice in the winter by collecting light reflected from the snow-covered ground.
The Wayside Restaurant is a Green Mountain Power customer that receives electricity from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., 7 days a week. Through net metering credits, the year-round energy generated by this solar array helps reduce Wayside’s much larger electric bills.
Solar is a readily available clean renewable source of electricity. It is estimated that the solar farm – 1,000,000 kWh per year. It is enough to move 138 houses for a whole year. Negotiations on carbon emission reductions will reduce 781 tons of carbon dioxide per year. That’s equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 839 acres of forest in one year.
