Washington took the series opener in comeback fashion from Florence.

Washington, Pa. (August 16) – The Washington Wild snapped an eight-game winning streak against Florence with a 7-3 win over the Y’lls at Ladies Night Out presented by Range Resources. Washington scored a run in four-straight innings and struck out ten batters in the win.


After falling behind 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Washington’s offense came alive. Anthony Brocato, making his Wild Things’ debut against his former team, put Washington on the board with an RBI single to short to score Jared Mang. Wagner LaGrange hit an RBI double that inning to make it a one-run game.

The Wild never looked back as Ian Walters and Tristan Peterson hit back-to-back solo home runs to take a 4-3 lead. LaGrange hit an RBI single in the fifth and Brocato followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home the second baseman and score Mang in the sixth to make it 6-3. Mang hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth as an insurance run to make it 7-3.

For the top of the ninth, Christian James stayed on the mound after pitching for the eighth. He struck out the first batter before allowing a double for the next double. Another strikeout by James and a pop fly to Ward ended the game. James struck out four batters in two innings in the save.

Hayden Pierce was the starter for Washington for this game. He pitched five innings, allowed three runs, struck out five, walked two and struck out three. Kenny Pierson relieved Piers in the sixth, going two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Washington (53-26) is now 9-1 against Florence (32-46) this season and has won eight straight. The Wild Things look to continue the streak tomorrow night with Senior Slugger Night presented by the PA Lottery. Tickets are available at wildthingtickets.com.
