– Vimeo Appoints Lynn Giroto as Chief Marketing Officer and Ashraf Alkarmi as Chief Product Officer for a New York City video software company. Both will be based in the Seattle area.
Girotto was previously chief marketing officer at San Francisco-based customer data tracking startup Hip. She has also held marketing roles at Amperity, Tableau, Getty Images, Starbucks and Microsoft.
Alkmari previously served as General Manager at Amazon’s streaming service Freevi (formerly IMDb TV) and at Facebook (now Meta), where he led product development for Facebook Watch. He also launched enterprise-class streaming services for AWS in his previous role.
Vimeo CEO Anjali Sood said in a LinkedIn post that Girotto and Alkarmi are “powerhouses in their respective fields.” “They’re also wonderful people to want to climb the highest mountain with.”
– Microsoft corporate vice president Sam George is retiring after 25 years with the tech giant. “I have achieved everything I set out to do and now I have enough to enjoy a simple life,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post.
George was previously the corporate vice president of Azure IoT for two years and has held other roles such as general manager, program manager and software developer.
George said he takes some time for family, friends and woodworking. “When it’s time to recreate, I plan to contribute to solving climate change,” he said.
– ABC hired Denise Detour as chief people officer and Jack Gold as chief marketing officer. Both are newly created positions for the Vancouver, Wash.-based biotech company.
Detore was previously at BeiGene, where she was most recently Head of Global Human Resources, and held HR roles at Jazz Pharmaceuticals and Genentech. Gold was previously chief marketing officer at Zimmerman; Prior to that, he spent 21 years at Nike, most recently as senior marketing director for Dick’s Sporting Goods.
– Amazon has hired Sean Simpson as chief portfolio manager for its new $1 billion industry innovation fund.It supports companies that develop customer fulfillment, logistics and supply chain technologies. Simpson’s previous roles include Director of WIND Ventures and Investment Manager of GM Ventures.
– Seeking startup SeekOut hires Claire Fang as its first chief product officer. Six months later, he raised $115 million and joined the ranks of Seattle unicorns. Trained as an electrical and computer engineer, Fang was previously chief product officer at Qualtrics, and also held product management roles at Facebook (now Meta) and Microsoft.
– Brian McLain will replace Christine Chambers as interim chief financial officer of audio pioneer RealNetworks. Chambers will be released on July 31 to pursue a new opportunity, according to the regulatory filing.
McClain, formerly the CFO of computer security company Pelco, has been appointed to serve until Nov. 5. McLain previously held executive positions at LOUD Audio and aerospace company Centrix.
