Ten successful University of Wisconsin Oshkosh graduates have been selected for the 2022 top award by the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. In our final feature of the series, we’ll introduce you to two students who are exceptionally talented at running businesses that are receiving special recognition from their alma mater.
Holly (Hahn) Brenner 99 and 09 MBA, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, and Eric Seger 08, 09 and 11 MBA will receive the Outstanding Young Alumni Award for Homecoming this fall.
Brenner has a history of leading and integrating organizations.
Holly Brenner
Brenner is a 1999 Fond du Lac major in marketing, human resource management and entrepreneurship, earned a master’s degree in business administration in 2009, and served as senior vice president of strategic development and marketing at CD Smith Construction.
“Many aspects of my experiences at UW Oshkosh have helped shape my life and career,” Brenner said, citing her time as an intern with the Cohen Institute, her interactions with faculty and staff, and her time with the sorority Pi Sigma Epsilon.
Brenner previously worked for SSM Health in various leadership roles from 2011-20. Dynamic Group, Inc. Director of Sales and Marketing from 2005-11; and vice president of marketing for Laux Agency from 2001-05 and business development manager from 1999-2001.
Brenner’s proudest personal accomplishment is raising three children – with her husband, Jason, doing everything she can to promote hard work, respect and helping others.
Professionally, Brenner is proud of the creation of EnVision Greater Fond du Lac, a merger of the Chamber of Commerce and the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation, where she served as the inaugural chair of the EnVision Board of Directors.
Steven Little, president and CEO of Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc, previously led Agnesian Healthcare in Fond du Lac. He hired Brenner as director of marketing, public relations and business development.
“Within a few years, Holly has earned the role of Senior Vice President in addition to President of Agnesia Healthcare Foundation,” he said. “Holly was being tipped to be the next president and CEO of Agnesia Healthcare and, in fact, if Women’s Advocate Mandate had not exited healthcare and sold Agnesia Healthcare to SSM Health.”
In 2018, he said he was impressed by Brenner’s skills in the community, bringing together two organizations, Envision Fond du Lac, to combine economic development with the local Chamber of Commerce.
Susan Neitzel, former Queen Institute director emerita, met Brenner when she was an undergraduate at UWO and followed her career. Nietzel spoke about Brenner’s history of serving her students, bringing her talents to student clubs and organizations, advisory boards, alumni associations and the UWO Foundation Board.
“Setting a lifelong example of engagement and continued engagement in academics and community service makes Holly an exceptional role model for other alumni and current UWO students,” Neitzel said.
Saeger is about learning, teaching and ‘the glue that holds the company together’
Eric Sager
Saeger, a resident of Oshkosh, earned multiple degrees at UWO: a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Finance in ’08, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics in ’09 and a Masters of Business Administration in ’11.
He is the leader of the Modular Web Solutions department in Greenville and a lecturer in the UWO Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology.
While studying at UWO, Saeger was involved in Student Support Services, Physics Student Association, Math Club, Phi Beta Lambda, Economics Student Association, International Business Club and was named to both the University Honor Roll and Dean’s List twice.
In addition to his UWO diplomas, Saeger, who earned his master’s degree from UW-Platteville in 2015, recently earned an associate’s degree in small business entrepreneurship from Fox Valley Technical College and expects to earn a bachelor’s degree in German from Oregon State University in 2023.
In his spare time, Sager enjoys learning languages and foreign cultures, traveling and working on a start-up business. He is involved in professional associations, including service as president of the Wisconsin region of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society International.
“There are professors who have been colleagues and helped me succeed, as well as a department that has created a second home for me on campus,” Saeger said of his time at UWO.
He explains how he went from an undergraduate degree in physics to a Denis Rioux fellowship, where he can ask for advice in classroom management.
“Throughout my years as a graduate student and coming into my own as a project manager, Andy Miller is another person I can rely on for quick answers to complex questions,” he said.
Sager, a first-generation low-income student, credits the Student Support Services team for giving him a place on campus to refine his big goals and “encourage him to overcome the obstacles that come his way.” my degree”
“Without a doubt, I would not be as successful as I am today without each and every one of these people giving me their support. I am always grateful for their support and will do my best to follow their lead to pass it on.
Miller called Saeger a conscientious student–someone who sees a leader to whom other students seek help and advice. Then, as a co-instructor, Miller always saw someone who was well-prepared and led a class that helped many engineering graduates succeed in the world with critical project management skills.
Daniel Moran, a partner at Modular Web Solutions, calls Sager “the glue that holds the company together” — he’s not only a director of projects, but also an engineer and acting plant manager.
He cites Sager’s professionalism and drive, saying he has a natural ability to understand the company’s unfamiliar business systems, develop best practices and lead the company. Moran calls Saeger an “inspiration” and says his positive attitude is contagious.
The 2022 Alumni Awards Ceremony will be held Oct. 21 at the Culver Family Welcome Center, with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and a program at 6 p.m. The cost of the event is $40 per person.
