ST. george – A year after the Utah Tech University football team played one of its toughest schedules in school history, the Trailblazers will again have to run a group of Division I teams this year.
Utah Tech University Athletics released the final schedule for the Tractors on Thursday, and despite hosting a total of five home games, their opponents won’t find it easy.
According to a press release, Incarnation University (San Antonio, Texas) has announced it will no longer join the Western Athletic Conference. Additionally, according to the release, Lamar University (Beaumont, Texas) left the WAC and returned to the Southland Conference.
Both schools were originally on Utah Tech’s 2022 schedule, so the Trailblazers lost two games.
Athletic Director Ken Beser spoke with The St. George News about efforts to keep games safe Tuesday afternoon.
Utah Tech replaced the two-game losing streak with two home games in November and kept its original 11-game schedule intact.
The completed schedule has three of the first four games on the road for the Blazers: at Sacramento State to open the season on Sept. 3; home to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member Chadron State, Sept. 10; Then at in-state rivals Weber State (Sept. 17) and Southern Utah University (Sept. 24) for the conference opener.
WASH rival Abilene Christian will play at Greater Zion Stadium on Oct. 1. A week after that, the Blazers hit the road again to face Missouri Valley Football Conference power Northern Iowa on Oct. 15.
Utah Tech returns home on Oct. 22 to face Sam Houston State, then the Blazers return to Texas for WAC play at Stephenson F. Austin on Oct. 29. Utah Tech then hosts SUU for a rematch on Nov. 5.
According to a press release, the Trailblazers will host the Thunderbirds on the St. George’s football field for the first time since the two rivals have played in the junior college tournament every year.
Utah Tech’s WAC finals against Tarleton State come Nov. 12 at home.
And finally, the Trailblazers will end the 2022 season in style at Lavelle Edwards Stadium in Provo and face the BYU Cougars on Nov. 19.
According to the press release, Utah Tech’s first four home games will be at 7 p.m., and the start time for the home opener against Tarleton has not yet been finalized.
Season and single match ticket information for the 2022 campaign will be announced in the coming days.
