UTA is regularly entering the fashion business.
The agency has launched a new division, UTA Fashion, which focuses on expanding the needs of clients in the fashion and beauty industries. UTA Fashion is led by New York-based Ann Nelson.
She joins CAA after serving as an agent in CAA’s fashion division for over a year. Prior to that, Nelson had time to gain international commercial success in the UFC. She joined the Endeavor-owned Ultimate Fighting League after two decades at Endeavor-owned IMG Fashion, where she served as director of business development and agent for fashion designers and models.
She started her fashion career in the mid-1980s in Paris, working as a model manager at the Marilyn Agency Paris. She moved to Elite Model Management as a Business Development Manager.
“Anne is one of the most respected fashion executives with deep and established relationships in the industry. She has a genuine passion for her clients, and has been the architect behind many career moments in the fashion world,” UTA board member and partner Blair Cohan and partner Darnell Strom said in a joint statement. “For UTA, bringing her on board is a natural next step in our work in this space, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes.”
A lot of news has come out of UTA of late. The formation of the fashion unit follows the acquisition of strategic partnerships with publishing agency Fletcher & Company, UK talent and literary agency Curtis Brown Group, entertainment and marketing consultancy MediaLink and leading global private equity firm Equity.
News of the new class comes live at UTA’s layoff earlier this month. The single-digit workforce cuts at the Jeremy Zimmer-led agency affected a total of 2,000 employees.
